Tandem Sand Filter Systems

Tandem systems have been developed for the convenience of both the contractor and the end user. Depending upon facility requirements and space restrictions, tandem systems can be custom designed to fit into existing buildings, eliminating the expense of building alterations or new construction. All tandems utilize our 36” high rate sand filter tanks featuring dual laterals. The systems shown below will process up to 424 gpm.

Internal Distribution System
The upper/lower collection and distribution system is constructed of non-corrosive, non-toxic materials such as ABS and PVC. The dual lateral arrangement provides better water distribution required for high solid application such as ornamental ponds and bird/mammal tanks. The dual lateral design uniformly expands the filter bed during backwashing providing better cleaning of the bed.

Gauge Panel
Tandem filter systems are supplied with a gauge panel consisting of two 4.5” diameter pressure gauges, 1-100# reading every 10 lbs. with 1 lb. increments. Each gauge provides a manual relief cock and tubing for connection to the influent and effluent pressure points.

Air Relief
A continuous internal automatic air relief with a debris strainer is incorporated into the construction of the filter.

Media (Customer Supplied)
Unlike medium recommended for swimming pool application, medium used in a high solids application should be coarse, ranging in size from 1 mm to 2 mm. Fine sand medium in the .45 mm to .55 mm size is too small and is less suitable for high solids applications. Medium that is coarser reduces the chance that the filter bed will pack down. However, medium too large or heavy fights against fluidization during the backwash process. Each tank requires 800 lbs. of silica sand (8 cubic feet.)
